MGS: The Essential Collection

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I picked this up a few hours ago, from the Gamestop that I still had a reservation for Super Smash Bros. Brawl at (I got my copy at Wal-Mart instead). I only had $5 down, but I needed to use it some time!

Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out on June 12th. I am going to play through MGS3 (which I have completed a few times in the past), Portable Ops (have never played through it), MGS1 (completed this one like ten times), and MGS2 (been through it a few times as well). Hopefully I can complete these all in the next 12 days, which shouldn’t be a problem. The only game I am worried about is Portable Ops, as I have no idea how long it is.

Time for me to relive my favorite game series of all time.

Videogame Ringtones (And An Easy Way To Get Them)

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Videogame Ringtones…the perfect way to let strangers know how nerdy/geeky you are (don’t get technical with me). Trying multiple ways to place custom ringtones on my old Sanyo PM-8200, to the point of buying a data cable and also having that not work, I believed my only solution to acquire the Steel Samurai ringtone from Phoenix Wright would be to purchase a new phone. Then, one day while browsing NeoGAF (as I do everyday), someone posted up a link to a site called Phonezoo. My search was finally over.

Phonezoo is a simple (and best of all, free) site that will send whatever ringtone you request to your phone via text message, which you’ll use to download the ringtone directly to your phone. Incredibly easy and quick to use, I recommend this site to anyone who wants the Metal Gear Solid codec to play when you receive a call (“Colonel, can you hear me?”), or to those still obsessed with Portal and want the “Still Alive” instrumental, or even the voice of a turret to inform them of a call/text message. The site also lets you embed the ringtones on your webpage, so here are the ones I am currently using:

This is what plays whenever I receive a call from someone I know who doesn’t have a specific ringtone assigned to them. You’ll recognize it from GTA3 most likely, but you can also assign it to your phone in Grand Theft Auto IV. So now my ringtone in real life is the same as the game!

Phoenix Wright’s very own ringtone, I hear this whenever someone who is not listed under my Contacts calls me. It used to be used for everyone, but right now I am really into GTA IV, so it has been kind of set to the side for now.

“Shut up! For Christ’s sake I know how to climb a ladder!”

I always feel like Deepthroat is calling me when I hear this for my voicemails.

I’m always alerted when I receive a text message. Quick! Where’s a locker?!

I play 360 games on my phone. I am L337 modder.

This plays every time I turn off my phone, usually right before bed. I am thinking of changing it though to avoid embarrassment. What if I turn off my phone in the movie theater?

This plays whenever I beat up a girl in a church.

Just kidding, I don’t go to church. This is assigned to my friend Jeremiah, who currently has procrastinated for months on sending my FFVII back. I want to play it before Crisis Core! What an asshole.

Assigned to my friend Burnell. Can you guess what type of person he is?

This is one of those really annoying ringtones, in which everyone who hears it thinks less of you for having it.

This plays whenever my mom calls.

She plays piano.

Sonic music makes for awesome ringtones. This is one of my favorite tracks, and is assigned to my brother. Old school!

Another great ringtone from Sonic, this is currently assigned to G4, for the Virtual Audience and such.

Halo has some epic music. This is assigned to my friend Jarvis, who I play a bunch of Halo 3 with every weekend now. I finally ranked up to Major Grade 2 recently. Now to reach Level 35…

The Wii Sports theme. Currently unassigned.

Kill Bill are some of my favorite movies. I had this ringtone years ago on another old phone, but I had to pay for it then. Currently unassigned.

Everyone knows this. The greatest ending credits song ever, this ringtone is currently unassigned. It seems like something you would use to pick up chicks though. Maybe I will have it set to play ALL THE TIME at Penny Arcade? It seems like a good conversation starter.

Probably the most common ringtone of them all, I don’t have this assigned to anything just yet.

You should recognize this. If I add another Final Fantasy fan to my phone, this is what they will get.

One of the most catchy tunes ever, this is one of my favorites. The only problem is, it doesn’t fit with any of my contacts! It’ll probably become my main ringtone after GTAIV for a little while. I’ve spent years humming this at random points in time.

That is all I have for now. I’m sure I will download more in the future, so if you have any good ideas, let me know. Remember, Phonezoo.com, it’s free!

And no, I’m not getting paid to say this. Enjoy!

Mysterious Ninja Turtle Game Explained!

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

The mystery has been solved. Thanks to a member over at GameGrep, I was linked to the much obvious ninjaturtles.com.

Here is the information they had on it:

Prepare to shell out some punishment.

Beloved April has been kidnapped by Shredder, a villain more vicious than an army of mind-altered Bruce Lees. Now you must play the role of your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and rescue her before she becomes a brain-washed member of his nasty Ninjitsu Foot Clan.

Starting your rescue mission.

To begin, press the ON/START Switch to display the high score. Next, press the GAME SELECT Switch, either one, two or three times, depending on which game you want to play (Note: challenge more than triples from game one to game three!) Finally, press the ON/START Switch again to swing into action.

Fighting for your life (and April’s).

From the start, you’ll have three Turtle lives to lose. Each time you’re touched by the Shredder Shuriken, the Pizza/Turtle Cutter or one of the Shredder’s hench-creatures (Mouser and Flap Jaws), you’ll be turned into turtle soup. You’ll also be shell-shocked if you bump into the Great Electro-Barrier Reef.

A final death threat is the Underwater Time Limit in games 2 and 3. If it reaches 0, your breathing days are over.

Object of Game 1

The simplest of your rescue missions, all you need do is battle your way into the water, find the Freedom Key, then unlock April’s chains. Wait, that’s not so simple! Considering you can’t enter the water until you’ve knocked off a horde of hench-creatures, and you can’t reach the key without avoiding the treacherous sea hazards.

Object of Games 2 and 3

Like Game 1, you have to battle past land enemies before entering the water. Only now you must retrieve bombs and set them off around Shredder’s Asylum until the shatter-proof shield shatters (careful – if the bombs aren’t perfectly placed, April will go up in smoke).

Once the shield is down, it’s back in the water to find the Freedom Key, which is hidden in a box. To find the right box, press the TURTLE CONTROL button. This will move a “selection bar” over the box of your choice. To open the box, press the SLICE AND DICE Button. If the key’s in there, it’s back to April for the final rescue. If it’s not, you’d better hurry up and find it before your time runs out.

So I was basically right about the game having three separate levels and April being caged/chained up. There were a few more of these types of games made as well, and I figure that as a kid, I would have picked up the sequels even after knowing the first game wasn’t very good. That is the type of stuff you do when you’re a fanboy, after all!

What the hell is this? (Ninja Turtles game)

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Okay, so I have a pretty good idea of what it is, I just want specifics!

Even with new AA batteries, this mysterious device refuses to work, so I will have to go off everything I know about it from memory (so some of this may be completely incorrect). A simplistic game containing a mere three levels, the goal of the game is to destroy all the enemies to advance to the next stage (each stage adds more enemies). April has been kidnapped and is being held in a cage, and it is your job to rescue her. Using the same background throughout the whole game (pictured), the extent of the graphics are black pixelated outlines that barely differentiate yourself from your foes. All else I remember is that the game was difficult due to the crappy and unresponsive controls.

Besides the 1989 copyright by Mirage Studios and Konami Japan, another way I know this game is old as hell is because each of the Ninja Turtles still sport their original red headbands, before they received their own colors. Anyways, I can’t find any details on this, so if anyone could help me out, that would be great.

Training The Army……TO ROCK! Update

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

I’ve been wanting to make an update on this for a while now, but I’m trying to see if I can obtain any pictures from the event. If I don’t get them soon, I will just go ahead and post how everything went.

Old Halo 3 Pics

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

These are old Halo 3 pics I took a long time ago, and I wanted to save and put them up before I took new ones:
