Apollo Justice Dated For Europe

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney has been dated for Europe. Nintendo announced today that the fourth entry in the Ace Attorney series is set to hit store shelves May 9th. The estimated retail price is to be £28/€40. Below is a quote from my review of the game:

“All in all, if you loved the Phoenix Wright games, you’ll love this game just as well. The gameplay is essentially the same: Watch the crime through an intro, investigate the crime by interviewing characters and searching for clues, and then go to court and use your evidence and knowledge to extrapolate the truth from the person on the witness stand. Great dialogue and music help the game live up to the quality of the Phoenix Wright series, but new gameplay additions specific to the DS, and even added touches such as FMV’s (yep!!) help this game stand out so you don’t feel like it is just a rehash of the same old stuff. While the game does include characters and other surprises from the previous games, don’t expect everything to be cleared up or you’ll be disappointed as I was. Apollo Justice is its own story and an interesting one at that, and it’ll be exciting to see where it goes.”

Basically, go out and buy this game if you’re a fan of the Phoenix Wright trilogy, as you have nothing to worry about. You can read my full review here.

Doodle Hex Announced for DS

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Developed by Tragnarion Studios and set for a Q1 2008 release, Doodle Hex is a DS exclusive in which players duel each other with magic. By drawing runes on the DS touch screen, two players can face off against each other with powerful spells such as blasts of fire, causing their opponent’s screen to shake (making it hard to draw runes and retaliate), reflecting spells back at their opponent, and even turning them into a frog. Players can also compete in tournaments and challenges in the puzzle mode of the game, unlocking new runes and spells to help create their own customized spell book. Featuring over 200 runes to collect, players can trade them with others over Wi-Fi, making for a longer lasting and more enjoyable experience. In fact, the game supposedly will offer over a 100 hours of gameplay.

Carl Jones, head of Tragnarion Studios, has stated:

“Like classic fighting and puzzle games, Doodle Hex offers a rewarding single player experience and the fun increases massively when dueling against other people. We’re delighted with how Doodle Hex is coming together – the game looks fantastic on the DS, is really addictive and the work our team have done on the characters and art style is amazing. We’re showing some examples of this work on our teaser site doodlehex.com, where you can see the doodlers Cassie, Strat, Fey and Kaleb, for now, but we’ll be putting a lot more content up there after we take Doodle Hex to the Leipzig Game Convention.”
