G4 To Show First (real) Gameplay Footage of GTA IV This Sunday

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

On Attack of the Show! tonight, Kevin announced that G4 will be showcasing the first ever gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto IV this Sunday at 12pm EST. This will be the first time real gameplay of the title has ever been shown to the public (as in someone actually playing it, not a video featuring crazy camera angles and carefully edited cutscenes), so if you wanna see how it looks before you pick it up, be sure to tune in. I am struggling to decide, as I will be picking up my limited edition copy the next day (Tuesday if you wanna get really technical. Midnight releases FTW!). Do I wait and be completely surprised? Or do I spoil it for myself? I think I will wait, but boredom may get the best of me Sunday morning…

MGO Beta Coming Friday

Monday, April 21st, 2008

As I’m sure most of you know by now (at least those who cared), the Metal Gear Online Beta has been delayed due to “high demand”. Uncertain as to when we would finally be able to play the beta, Konami updated their site to inform us that it will return this Friday. Here is how they put it:

“Start date: Planned for 04/25/2008 24:00(PDT). While the start is planned for the weekend, it may change due to unforseen [sic] circumstances.”

“Unforeseen circumstances” like what happened today? I hope not.

Metal Gear Online Beta….Delayed

Monday, April 21st, 2008

So many mistakes with the Metal Gear Online Beta:

  • People receiving incomplete codes to unlock the beta.
  • Having to sign up for a Konami ID AND a Game ID, both with their own username and password.
  • Problems downloading the patch that is required when you first sign in.
  • The sign-up site for aforementioned ID’s not working due to too much traffic.
  • And now…the worst of all:

  • The Metal Gear Online Beta has been delayed indefinitely due to “high demand”.

What did they expect? Did they not bother to test anything? This is friggin’ Metal Gear! Of course there is going to be a high demand. I woke up this morning (extra early) excited to play it. I started downloading the patch since I was having trouble doing so before, and watched the 4/20 Attack of the Show! special while I waited. Afterwards, I went to the Konami ID site on my computer (took way too long to load on my PS3), and after a few tries due to the site crashing, I successfully created my ID’s. I rushed back to input the information into my PS3, only to have an error message pop-up. I tried a few times, but instantly, I always received that same damn message informing me that I won’t be playing the beta like I hoped. As I’m sure a lot of people did, I hopped back on my computer to find out what was wrong. My first and only destination was NeoGAF, where I entered their (at the time of this writing) 95 page thread dedicated to the beta. I knew something major was wrong seeing as the page number grew exponentially since I last viewed it. Slightly relieved (I knew that I wasn’t one of the only ones), I quickly found the information I was seeking.

Apparently, the beta is put on hold for everywhere except Japan, until Konami can stabilize their servers. We’ll receive more information tomorrow, and the Beta has been extended five days, to close on the 11th of May instead of the 6th. Here is the quote from Konami’s website:

“We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test.

However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.
As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the start of the US public beta test until we are able to stabilize our server.
We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused.

We would like to add that due to the above reasons, we will be making the following changes to the schedule:
    1) Starting date: TBA. We will be making another announcement on 22/4/2008 23:00(PDT)
    2) Beta Test closure: This will now be on 11/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT) rather than 06/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT)

IMPORTANT: Please note that your voucher code will only be valid up until 05/06/2008, so please make sure to register them by then.”

So we should be able to play it soon. Some are freaking out that it may not come until the 29th or after (GTA IV’s release), but I don’t see that happening. It should be within the next couple of days.

  • Metal Gear Solid 4 LE Box Art Revealed!

    Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Thanks to Joystiq for the image.

The Limited Edition box art for Metal Gear Solid 4 has been revealed for North America. Those of you who dislike the standard super-close-up-of-Snake’s-face edition (which I happen to like), can pay $25 extra ($85 total) and get this box art featuring Snake and (Liquid) Ocelot. Along with the cool art, you’ll get two making-of documentaries and the soundtrack (which is sure to be bangin’). The only problem is that this Limited Edition is exclusive at Gamestop only. Those of you who hate them may just have to acquiesce. Me? I already have it reserved. I’m just waiting for my damn preorder bonus to show up, and I’m starting to become worried.

And the art for Ocelot reminds me of Afro Samurai for some reason.

Those of you wanting to read the full press release, can check out this PDF file obtained from Konami’s website.

“Still Alive” Hitting Rock Band Tomorrow!

    Monday, March 31st, 2008

Jonathan Coulton playing Still Alive on Rock Band. From Joystiq

For the Xbox 360 at least.

As previously reported, Portal’s theme song, “Still Alive” (performed by the villain in the game, GLaDOS) is coming to Rock Band for both the PS3 and 360, but it wasn’t until today that we receive solid release dates. Tomorrow, April 1st, “Still Alive” will be hitting the 360 via the Marketplace and Rock Band’s own in-game music store. PS3 owners will sadly have to wait, however, until April 17th. Why the delay? Because the Playstation Store is receiving a redesign, and new content will have to wait until it is complete. Sorry guys :(

If I want to download it, I will have to unhook a lot of cables and move various routers around. I think I will wait, as I should have that 50-foot LAN cable later this week. I’ll go ahead and purchase it now actually. I just got back into Rock Band too, and am still going through Easy mode with the Drums. It isn’t that I suck (because I rock), but because I just haven’t been playing it.

    Dead Space Set for Halloween

    Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Dead Space has been given an October 31st release date for both Europe and North America. Here is a snippet from the official press release:

“Electronic Arts today announced that new sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space™ will be in European and North American stores on October 31st for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system.

“Survival horror is about experiencing a terrifying, and deeply personal fiction,” said Executive Producer Glen Schofield. “Dead Space is being developed as a single-player thriller that delivers the chilling, claustrophobic feeling of being isolated in a dark environment, while being stalked by some truly horrific enemies. Halloween is the perfect time for EA to deliver the fear and anxiety that will keep survival horror fans up playing all night.”

My biggest question is, will you be able to pause your game when trick and treaters come to the door?
