LTTP: The Simpsons Game Review (X360)

Monday, February 11th, 2008

When I downloaded the The Simpsons Game demo upon its initial release, I was disappointed. At first, I found the controls too complicated, the camera too annoying, and the overall gameplay too frustrating. For those of you who don’t remember, the level in the demo was Shadow of the Colossal Donut, one that is certainly not on my favorites list after having completed the game. My problems with the controls, camera, and gameplay are also not on my list, my “Frustrating Aspects That Prevent Me From Enjoying The Game” list that is. Maybe I have been blinded by the humor or hilarious parodies, but I enjoyed this game far more than I expected to.

Tomb Raider: Legend Review (X360)

Friday, January 25th, 2008

This was the sixth review I ever wrote, which was completed on June 24th, 2006 (my 18th birthday!). It was my first review in which I used screenshots to showcase the game better. This is part of my Old Reviews series. I suggest you read that linked post before reading any of these reviews by the way, so you can get more context as to why I wrote them the way I did. All I have done is copy and paste, therefore any errors I made back then have been unchanged. It will be nice for myself to see how much I might’ve screwed up/improved. Every time I read one of my older reviews, I feel like it was written by a different person. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad yet:

After some past disappointment and failures, Lara Croft returns with a bang in Tomb Raider: Legend. Forget what you know about her previous adventures, as Crystal Dynamics (Legacy of Kain) has created an entirely new game starring the cult icon. While hardcore fans of the older games may not enjoy the linear path this game takes, new fans will be welcomed with a fun and engaging platformer.

Call of Duty 2 Review (X360)

Monday, January 21st, 2008

This was the fifth review I ever wrote, which was completed on January 18th, 2006.

Being one of the most played out genres in videogame history, rarely do you come across a World War II shooter that is actually worth playing. Call of Duty 2 takes everything that made other World War II games great, and increases it exponentially to make for a truly epic experience. By achieving this, Infinity Ward has created a First-Person Shooter that has made people realize that shockingly, there is a lot of potential left in this genre.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game Of The Movie Review (X360)

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

This was the fourth review I ever wrote, which was completed on December 25th, 2005 (Christmas!).

Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game Of The Movie, while short, provides a constant flow of intense and terrifying action throughout the entire experience. Kong is one of the best movie-to-game adaptations ever created, but what can you expect when the critically acclaimed Michel Ancel and Peter Jackson himself join forces?

Perfect Dark Zero Review (X360)

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

This was the third review I ever wrote, which was completed on December 7th, 2005.

Perfect Dark Zero (PDZ) is the Xbox 360’s premiere launch title, and in my opinion, lives up to the expectations for it to be a great First-Person Shooter (FPS) and have an excellent multiplayer experience.

Wing Commander Arena Review (X360)

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Wing Commander Arena was released upon the Xbox Live Arcade yesterday, but is it worth your ten bucks? The most touted aspect of this game is the fact that it’s the first Arcade title to feature up to 16 players in a game simultaneously, and due to this focus on multiplayer, it seems the single player suffered. Unless you can play online and enjoy frantic space shooter battles in which your rewards are achievements, unlocked ships, and bragging rights on the Leaderboard, then don‘t bother. But if that is your kind of thing, then this game provides a fun action-packed multiplayer experience not before seen from an Arcade game. More thought could have been put into the single player mode, and it would have been nice to not be forced online for your multiplayer fix, but one mustn’t forget that this is a $10 title and not one that costs sixty bucks. And as far as $10 Arcade titles go, Wing Commander Arena provides more play value than a lot of them do.
